This morning on the Today show, it was mentioned that there are reports coming out of the UK that Madonna and Guy are splitting. I would have just blown this off as just another rumor until the reporter said that their publicist isn't confirming or denying. In PR terms, that means they've separated. How many times have you heard a publicist say that when there are rumors a celebrity is pregnant? And how many times is that celebrity usually pregnant? You may not hear they are right away, but a couple months later you see the growing belly ... or the People cover.
In my 4 semesters of taking Mass Comm/PR classes, I've learned you always reply with an answer. If they weren't splitting up, the publicist would have already said that their marriage is doing great and they are not separating. Plus, it didn't help their case in my eyes that the few occasions where they were spotted on the red carpet this year looked forced. Usually they're kind of smiley, or at least Madonna is, but she usually had a look on her face that reeked of "how much longer do we have to stand together and pretend that everything's alright?"
See, a Mass Comm education does come in handy. If you're in high school and you don't have a major yet, you should totally consider it. Trust me, it's fun predicting the future. ;-)
